David R. Strait

David Strait’s law practice focuses on helping clients develop comprehensive, meaningful trusts, wills, and estate plans. He thrives on the details and takes pride in creating thoughtful plans personalized to each client’s individual needs and circumstances.

David’s extensive experience and strong sense of business law have helped clients develop and implement business and corporate strategies and navigate real estate transactions, contracts, and civil litigation. He approaches every matter as a challenge and has always been committed to serving as a strong advocate for his clients.

With more than three decades of legal experience, David is the senior partner at the law firm. His years of practice have provided him with a wealth of knowledge and experience that he brings to every client and case. He looks forward to continuing to serve his clients and community for many years to come.

David was born and raised in Castlewood, South Dakota. He joined the law firm in 1987 after serving as a Law Clerk for the Third Judicial Circuit Court of South Dakota. He received his bachelor’s degree from the University of South Dakota in 1983 and his Juris Doctor from the University of South Dakota School of Law in 1986.

David has successfully argued cases before the South Dakota Supreme Court and is a member of the South Dakota Bar, Codington County Bar Association, and the United States District Court for the District of South Dakota. He is also a licensed real estate broker, having first obtained his real estate license at the age of 19.

David and his wife, LuAnn, reside in Watertown, South Dakota. They have three children and a grandchild. Outside of his legal practice, David enjoys spending time with his family, weekends at the family cabin on Lake Poinsett, cross-country motorcycle riding, traveling, hunting, and admiring sports cars.
